General Director: Mr. Mong Reththa

At the current time, Asia consumers over 60% of the total Pigs in the world. With its own 14 million population, Cambodia consumers only 1 milion pigs (100,000,000Kg) per year or each citizen devours between 5-7Kg/year; but as a matter of fact when the GDP and economic growth with 2 digits, each citizen needs 15Kg/year or 2.1 million pigs annually. In order to provide enough 2.1 million pigs annually, Cambodia needs at least 150,000 breeding sows at this moment. Through our estimation with the population growth of about 2.7% annually and repeated economic growth of 2 digits, in year 2015 Cambodia may have about 17-18 million population, consuming about 2.8 million pigs/year from 220,000 breeding pigs.

With a see-through vision and definite strategy for self-help for self-improvement in Food Production in Cambodia and t avoid the legal and illegal import of between 2,000-3,000 pigs per day into Phnom Penh and many other bordering provinces across the Cambodia, that is making Cambodia loses about US$70-80 million per year and more serious than this, the imported pigs may cause a high risks of uncontrollable HPRRS diseases.

By seeing these reasons, MRG under a strong support from RGC with ACMC Limited headquarter in East Yorkshire, UK and with a strong support UK Embassy in Phnom Penh and Bangkok, have come into an unanimous agreement and firmly set up a joint-venture company called M's Pigs ACMC in organizing a nucleus farm with 600 GGPs since December 2008.

M's Pig ACMC starts its project in the first year with the investment capital of US$5 million for pig costs, building piggeries and construction facilities, feed mills, modern slaughter houses and working capital. The investment capital will amount up to US$190 million in year 10 or in the year of 2018. The nucleus farm of 600 GGPs is located in Phnom Takeung area with the total number of 30 administration personnels, veterinarians, animal health staffs and workers. This nucleus farm will create 04 miltiplication farms and 16 commerical farms in five years in a combination of about 15 feed mills and 04 slaughter houses. The number of 600 sows will go up to 75,000 in year 5, keeping a constant growth number upto about 90,000 in year 10. The sales of slaughter pigs including 5% of breeding ones start with a number 8,000 in year 2 and up to 1,100,000 in year 8 (2015). By that time the pig sale number of M's Pig ACMC may meeti with 35-38% of the total market demand of 2.8 million. The stock of Meidam, Volante LW and Vantage FC represents the latest genetic from East Yorkshire of the UK. Their qualifications and characteristics remain strong build, if health, small consumption of feed, less aggressive, more teats (between 16-18), maximum meat convertibility, more productive piglets with the live rate of 12.5 per litter and providing 2.5 litters yearly. For the pig price, the live weight pig costs US$2.00 per Kg while the carcass meat between US$3-5 nowadays.

For social benefits, the local pig production can: 1) make its own health through self-production, 2) meet with hygience standards and food safety through slaughter houses and anti-smuggling or illegal pig import, 3) create more jobs to about 3,000 local laborers to avoid labor migration that faces with very high risks, 4) more business activities through buying local crops as principal raw materials for fee mills such as corn, broken rice, rice bran, beans, cassava, etc., 5) provide added-value chains for the sectors of construction, transport, health care, food security, diversified agriculture and etc. This project is also aimed to answer with the policy of poverty line reduction and Rectangular Strategy of RGC through setting up thousands of local small scale projects of pig credits, namely selling pigs, feed on credits and pig health service to backyard farmers/local producers to increase their income generation. The project also helps to stabilize the pig costs in markets, reflects hard-working and creativity of Cambodian farmers in rural areas for life skills and balance. With a positive strategy and slogan "From Stokyard to Plate" of M's Pig ACMC will diversify the food styles and chains through producing sausage, dried meat, fresh packed meat, canned food fo dogs and cats , etc.

H.E. Dr. Oknha Mong Reththy is now planning to build a network of commercial pig producers, to set up a marketing website, to publish a weekly pig magazine, and to form up a Training Center for Local Pig Producers in a short run and then a Livestock University in a long run. By this advanced move, Cambodia could then stand on its own feet in food production, not depending on smuggling and illegal import with no health control that harms the health of the whole communities of ours.
